Network Intelligence - Real Interconnectivity
MOST Cooperation Sponsors Technology Know-how to the MOST FORUM
MOST – Media Oriented Systems Transport – is the de-facto standard for multimedia and infotainment networking in the automotive industry. The technology was designed from the ground up to provide an efficient and cost-effective fabric to transport audio, video, data and control information between any devices attached, even in the harsh environment of an automobile. Its synchronous nature allows for simple devices to be able to provide content, and others to render that content, with the minimum of hardware. At the same time, it provides unique Quality of Service (QoS) for the transmission of audio and video services. Although its roots are in the automotive industry, MOST can be used for applications in other areas, such as other transportation applications, A/V networking, security and industrial applications.
MOST not only defines the physical interconnection between devices but also specifies and standardizes a lean embedded communication protocol and software framework that simplifies the development of complete systems and applications to distribute and manage multimedia content. The MOST Cooperation is the organization through which the technology is standardized and refined so that it continues to stay abreast of the latest technology requirements.
The concept for the MOST Cooperation started as an informal cooperative effort in 1997. In 1998, the Cooperation was founded and today 16 international carmakers and more than 60 key component suppliers are working with the MOST Technology and contributing towards its innovation. Audi, BMW, Daimler, Harman/Becker and SMSC as core partners form its Steering Committee. Other member car companies include Aston Martin, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, Jaguar, Land Rover, Nissan, Porsche, PSA, Toyota, Volvo, and VW. Currently, MOST is the backbone of the infotainment systems of over 90 car models from the most innovative and forward looking auto manufacturers of the world. The MOST Cooperation is prepared to embrace efforts to further develop and standardize the technology to accommodate other industries’ needs and to establish the corresponding work structures. The MOST Cooperation's membership is continuously growing due to its philosophy of openness to any company and any industry. The Cooperation invites and welcomes other companies to participate and contribute their efforts to the development and enhancement of the MOST Technology.
